Custom Coca-Cola red kitchen cabinets in Roseville remodel

Bold Color in a Sea of White: The “Coca-Cola Red” Kitchen

Most Twin Cities kitchen remodels we see these days follow a familiar pattern: white shaker cabinets, white quartz, and subway tile. It is a classic look, and we love building it.

But sometimes, a client asks for bold.

For this project in Roseville, the homeowner—a professional graphic designer—didn’t want a kitchen that faded into the background. They wanted a space that reflected their vibrant personality and love for a 1950s diner aesthetic.

They wanted Red.

The Challenge: A “Traffic Hub” with 7 Windows

Before we could talk about color, we had to solve the layout. This kitchen was the definition of “busy.”

  • The Traffic: The room had three different doorways, turning the kitchen into a hallway for kids and pets running through the house.
  • The Envelope: With seven windows (including a large bay window), wall space for cabinetry was almost non-existent.

The homeowners needed a solution that would allow the kids to pass through without getting underfoot, while giving the parents a “secluded” zone to cook safely.

The Solution: The “Cockpit” Layout

We designed a peninsula layout that acts as a natural barrier.

  • Traffic Control: The peninsula steers foot traffic to the outer edge of the room, keeping the path clear between the doorways.
  • The Cook’s Zone: Behind the peninsula, the chef has protected access to the range and sink. It creates a dedicated workspace that feels open to the family but separated from the chaos.

The Design: Chasing “Coca-Cola Red”

Doing a red kitchen is risky. If you pick the wrong shade, it looks like a fire engine or a fast-food restaurant.

Because our client had a trained artistic eye, “close enough” wasn’t an option. We went through multiple rounds of custom color matching at the paint store, testing samples in the home’s lighting until we nailed the exact, deep “Coca-Cola Red” finish they envisioned.

We balanced the high-octane color with sleek stainless steel appliances, a modern range hood, and crisp white countertops to keep the space feeling fresh, not heavy.

The “Invisible” Work

As with many older homes, the prettiest parts often cover up the ugliest problems. During demolition, we discovered significant exterior rot around the existing windows.

  • The Fix: We didn’t just patch it. We replaced the large bay window entirely and re-sided the back of the home to ensure the new kitchen was watertight and energy-efficient for the next 50 years.

The Result

A fearless, joyful space that functions perfectly for a busy family. It proves that you don’t have to follow the trends to have a beautiful home—you just need a contractor who listens to your vision.
